In an attempt to make Space Team look more professional, I created an entirely fictitious publishing imprint and named it after the villainous galactic government from the series. And so, Zertex Media was born, although it wasn’t until February 2018 that the company stopped existing in my head and started to exist as a legal entity in its own right.
Yes, I’ve started a publishing company.
Or, more accurately, my wife and I have. I’ll be doing the creative stuff, she’ll be doing all the actual work, and I’ll be taking as much of the credit as possible. It’s a formula that has worked well for us (or for me, anyway) for 18 years, so I see no reason to change it now.
Despite having worked in the publishing industry for a decade, I don’t know all that much about the actual business of publishing. I think I’ve got the writing bit as nailed down as I’m ever likely to, but how to turn those words into books in bookshops is all a bit of a dark art at the moment. Still, we’re determined to learn, and I’ll be updating this blog with all our successes and failures as we develop and grow. Hopefully more of the former than the latter, but only time will tell.
We’re also based waaaaay up in the Highlands of Scotland, so not exactly at the heart of the UK publishing scene. Still, the views are better, so there’s that.
I hope you’ll follow along on our journey to grow the business and share our love of books, and please feel free to chime in with comments at any point.
Best wishes,
Barry and Fiona
Incidentally, the featured image at the top of this post doesn’t really have anything to do with the post itself. Still, nice though, innit?
Fantastic! Will watch with interest for more developments. Well done 🙂
